FAQs

Do I need therapy?

Simply put, YES, everyone can benefit from therapy. Therapy isn’t just for moments of crisis; it’s for anyone who wants to better understand themselves, navigate life’s challenges, or grow emotionally.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like you’re carrying a heavy load alone, therapy might be exactly what you need. Think of it as a safe, judgment-free space where you can process your thoughts and emotions and work toward the life you want. It’s not about ‘needing’ therapy but exploring how it could support you in this season of your life.

How can therapy benefit me?

Therapy is different for everyone, but one of its greatest benefits is giving you the tools to manage life’s ups and downs more effectively. You might gain insight into patterns that have been holding you back, develop healthier ways to cope with stress, or feel more connected in your relationships.

It’s not a quick fix, but with time, you might notice subtle changes—like feeling less reactive, more confident, or better equipped to handle challenges. The benefits of therapy grow over time, and many people find that it becomes a powerful investment in their mental and emotional well-being.

Is therapy really confidential?

Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. Everything you share with your therapist stays private, creating a safe and judgment-free space for you to open up–with a few exceptions. Therapists are mandated reporters, so if there is risk of harm to yourself or someone else, or any other situations required by law— that will have to be disclosed to the appropriate channels. Any other information can only be released with your documented consent. Your trust is our priority, we value it immensely, working hard to maintain it at all costs.

What can I expect at my first session?

Your first session will be a lot more structured and information gathering to help us collaborate on developing your personalized treatment plan. During the initial session, your therapist will conduct an assessment to understand your concerns, goals, and background to best inform the healthiest and most effective ways to reach your goals.

Okay, I got the first session done, what now? How long are sessions? How do you know you are done?

You will collaborate with your therapist on frequency of sessions and this may adjust as therapy progresses depending on the level of need and season you are in. Follow up sessions will typically be more laid back and feel less like spilling your guts (unless that is what you need!) and more like a true back and forth conversation. There will be times of laughter and tears, as well as hard/ heavy talks and times we may tangent about the last show you started watching or what you did over the weekend. You are a multifaceted person and it is important to explore all the parts of you to continue to grow and learn about yourself on your way to the best, most authentic version of yourself.

Intakes and individual sessions are around 50-55 minutes long, and take place on the hour. As far as the duration of services, this varies case to case and ultimately depends on when you feel you have received the support and tools you need to thrive. Some people find they go in and out of therapy for “tune ups” through various seasons of life, others may go for a singular season for situational stressors, and some may find it helpful to go consistently for long periods if they have deeper issues such as childhood trauma. It is truly up to the individual person, their circumstances, and the work they wish to do in therapy.

What if I don't feel like my therapist is right for me?

I encourage you to always find a therapist that feels right for you and your needs. I have had clients that think I am the best thing ever and I have had clients who think I am the worst therapist— no one is everyone’s cup of tea. I often tell clients finding a therapist is kind of like dating. You sometimes know during the first meeting whether you click or not, and other times it may take a few more to figure it out. If you ever feel like your therapist is not a good fit for you, speak up, we would love to help you find one that works best for you!

Can you prescribe medications? Do you do psychological testing?

No, I cannot prescribe medications, as I am not a doctor or nurse practitioner. As far as testing, I can do some screeners to assist in diagnosis, but I am not a psychologist or psychological examiner so I cannot do psychological testing like you may need for certain diagnoses like Autism Spectrum Disorder or ADHD. However, I can provide referrals, if clients are needing medication management or psychological testing.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel my appointment?

You can get on the portal at any time to request, reschedule or cancel appointments, as well as reaching out via text or email. We request at least 24 business hours notice to allow us to offer your appointment slot to another client (Ex. If your appointment is at 10 am on Monday morning, you will need to cancel no later than 10 am on the Friday before the scheduled appointment). Late cancellations or no shows will result in a fee. We reserve the right to terminate services at any time due to frequent cancellations/no shows or if you have not responded to reschedule in 30 days.

What if I need something between sessions? Do you offer crisis services?

You are welcome to text, call or email me at any time—with text and email being the methods I respond most quickly to. I do not respond or answer anything outside of business hours, but do my best to respond within 24 business hours, excluding weekends, holidays and vacation. I do not offer crisis or on call services directly. If you need immediate help or are experiencing a mental health crisis please utilize the hotlines and warmlines listed here or proceed to your nearest ER.
